Resident. Widespread but local throughout much of the British Isles, but most common in the south and east.

A well distibuted, low density species, usually found in singletons.

Wingspan :   M & F, 20-26mm.

Habitat

Heathy woodland and boggy ground.

Foodplant

Various grasses.

Lifestage data

Grass moth. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva lives in, and feeds from, a small vertical tube amongst dense tufts of the foodplant. Pupates in a white silken cocoon covered with grass particles in leaf sheath.
